Favorite Summer Things

Well it's mid-July and if you live in Texas, you know mid-July heat is no joke! I can't say I'm a huge fan of the feels-like-105-degrees weather, but I am finding a lot of things to love about summer, even as I look forward to my favorite upcoming season (yes, fall!).
Here's what I'm loving about the season we're in right now. It turns out, summer can be pretty awesome too.
Summer = adventure. Even for those of us who aren't in school anymore, there's something about the months of summer that always feel like the appropriate time to do adventurous things that we don't get to during the rest of the year. For me, it always means exploring a lot around my city. Last summer my sister and I did an intense amount of coffee shop/museum hopping and it made us feel like tourists in the best possible way. I'm just starting to get into the swing of city exploring this summer, but I did check out our new Cupcake ATM which is as magical as it sounds!

Another adventurous thing I love about summer is road trips! Vacationing in general during the summer is a blast, but I have a soft spot for road trips. There's something wonderful about being able to see miles of trees whisk by you and get excited over stopping at convenience stores or fast food places to refuel. My ultimate favorite (and pretty much mandatory) stop is Buc-ees. If you've ever been there, you know it's the ultimate convenience store!

I love that summer means ice cream. Yes, this one does deserve its own category, because summer is pretty much the only time of the year that it's acceptable to have ice cream several times a week (maybe not super healthy, but no one'll really be judging you for it due to the heat)! I can't tell you how much I've been seeing ice cream everywhere in the past few weeks, and with good reason. The Texas heat makes ice cream seem like the perfect snack on most days. Obviously you shouldn't eat it every day, but summer is definitely the time to eat it more than usual.

And one final thing I love about summer is that it's the perfect time of the year to get into your hobbies again. This has a lot to do with the way the school year works, but even for those out of school, summer is a season that often bursts with creativity. It's right in the middle of the year, so it's often the time when we look back at our New Year's resolutions and find inspiration to get on track with them again (even if we've fallen behind in the busy Spring months)! For me, this summer has been about blogging and writing a lot, and I've had so much fun being creative in those ways.
What's your favorite thing about summer?
