Adventuring Week 16: Walking for Freedom

This might be the first time I post about my #Adventuring experience on the day it happened, but it's only because this was one of my favorites. Today, thousands of people all over the world participated in a global Walk for Freedom, a movement from the A21 Campaign to raise awareness about human trafficking. Hundreds of people in my city walked single file silently through the heart of downtown, passing out flyers and informing passerbys about the cause behind the walk. It was an awesome thing to be a part of.

Though human trafficking has gained a lot more awareness in the past few years (in great part because of the efforts of the A21 Campaign), there are still many people who don't really understand what it is, and even more who don't understand the extent of its impact. That's why I believe education and awareness are still so, so important. And I'm glad we got to do it through this walk.

Another neat thing was that once we finished the walk, my sister and I headed to the grand opening of a coffee shop whose proceeds all go to help human trafficking survivors and continue to raise awareness. A 2nd Cup has been one of our favorites for years, and it was great to see their new, permanent home. It's a stunning place!

Of course, the coffee is also genuinely delicious...

I love that there are so many great ways now to get involved in the fight to end human trafficking. If you don't know a lot about this issue, check out this page and some of the awesome organizations (like the A21 Campaign, IJM, and the Polaris Project) that are working to end it in our world today. The reality is that as people who enjoy freedom and a great access to resources, we have a responsibility and privilege to speak up for those who can't. I encourage you to find a way to do it too. :)
