The Many Miracles of Christmas

We talk about the true miracle of Christmas every year, reminding others and ourselves that this season should be about celebrating Jesus' birth. And I've always found time to recognize that and thank God for the amazing miracle of that strange, cold night. But this year it's been different. This year I've been having a much deeper realization about what that miracle really meant.
Lately, when I consider the reality of Jesus' birth, it leaves me with a sense of overwhelming awe. Because it's so much more than the story of a baby king born in a humble stable. It's a night that meant so much- a symbol of God's love that says so much about Him, even now.
For one, the Christmas story tells me this:
God does not consider us too lowly and unworthy of His love that He would not be willing to become one of us- frail and broken as we are. Jesus fully entered our world. I mean, think about that. He was fully human. He ate and drank, walked dirt roads, got tired and hungry and dirty. And you might say, well he had to become human you know, that's the only way it would have worked.
And you're right. But he didn't have to become human the way he did. He didn't have to be born in a stable, grow up in a carpenter's house, and live his days as a nomad with no place to call home. He didn't have to live among the poor and the sick and the broken. But He did. He chose to. And that says so much to me about the kind of love God has for us. He does not see us as despised, frail things, but as beautiful (though imperfect) children whom He longs to have a friendship with.
Another thing the Christmas story tells me is that true power and authority are not dependent on appearances. True power is confident but also meek. It's not afraid to be humble- a dirty, smelly stable instead of a clean and polished palace. Jesus modeled humility for us throughout his whole time on earth, and it's such a powerful picture. It calls us to embrace life in the same way, to know that our identity and authority are found in Jesus. So there is no need to put on airs or try to gain attention from the world.
These are just two of the amazing lessons I'm finding in this season. There are so, so many more, and I'm looking forward to meditating on them and sharing them with you guys as well. :)
