Quote Inspiration: Cinderella

I'm resurrecting a series from last year today, mostly because I keep thinking about this movie and I had to find a way to share how in love with it I am. Although Cinderella wasn't my favorite Disney movie growing up, this is hands-down my favorite retelling of a Disney story. It was so purely made, so true to the original story and message. Anything it added didn't take away from the story (as many recent retellings have), but only made its message stronger.

Cinderella may be a children's movie, but it became one of my favorite movies the first time I watched it. Here are some quotes I'm still obsessed with:

"I have to tell you a secret that will see you through all the trials that life can offer. Have courage and be kind. You have more kindness in your little finger than most people possess in their whole body. And it has power, more than you know. And magic." - Cinderella's mother

I always love hearing and reading anything about kindness because I think it's so underrated in our world today. It's a trait so easily overshadowed by things like influence and charisma. But I don't think either of those is more powerful than compassion, than seeking to be kind to others even when they cannot repay us. It's certainly not always easy, and I'm not saying we should try and try to be kind by being fake. But we should look to the Author of kindness, to the most tender and good Person in the universe, and learn from Him. There is no malice or evil in God- only kindness and good intentions. And there is something kind of magical about that.

"Just because it's what's done, doesn't mean it's what should be done." - Cinderella

I loved the character of Cinderella because she was fully herself- even if people thought she was strange for talking to mice and protecting wild stags. She judged things by her own morals, not simply what was popular or traditional. It takes courage to be that way, I think, and I hope I'm brave enough to stand up for things in the same way.

"To her mother and father she was a princess. True she had no title nor crown nor castle, but she was the ruler of her own little kingdom whose borders were the house in the meadow on the forest’s edge where her people had lived for generations." - Fairy Godmother

The idea that we are princesses or princes may seem a bit silly and childish at first, but for believers, it is a reality. We are co-heirs with Christ- the Bible says that plainly- and we will one day rule alongside Him. That is so amazing and wild to me, and I love thinking about it because it reminds me of my true identity. I believe we are called to view ourselves not as weak, lowly beings who can't do anything right- but as rulers, as part of a holy Kingdom full of power and justice and light. That's such an incredibly powerful thought, one that has the power to change every wrong belief we have about ourselves. So it's one I want to always be aware of.
