Happy Spring break, for those of you relishing in the freedom this week. Of course I'm not in college anymore, so spring break just looks like eerily empty hallways at my job where students are usually found. But even though my work schedule hasn't changed this week (except for a nice off-day on Friday), it still feels like spring break. Maybe it's just the lovely breezy weather that is a welcome change in Houston.

Reading...

Unqualified by Steven Furtick. I've been excited about this book coming out and got extra lucky when my sister bought it so I could read it for free ;). I literally just started it yesterday, so I don't have any favorite parts to share yet. I'm sure that will change later though. I can't wait to delve deeper into it, as I think the subject matter is so, so important.

Watching...

I'm going to talk about a movie on this category for the first time. Last week I watched How to be Single with a friend who scored free tickets. Honestly, I wasn't expecting greatness (unless you consider the female version of the Hangover greatness). But although there were a few of the typical single-girl-parties-like-crazy scenes, the ending was surprisingly sincere and heartfelt. I'm a big believer that our season of singleness is a gift, not a curse, so that's always a message I can get behind. This movie is rated R, in case that bothers you, but it was really only because of the language.

Following...

Felines of New York. If you're looking for a little humor to brighten your Facebook/Instagram feed (and we could all use that in light of all the crazy political posts, am I right?) do yourself a favor and follow this account. It's basically the cat version of the very popular Humans of New York page, and it's kind of hilarious. But then again, when are cats ever not hilarious?

Loving...

The Houston Rodeo. This is always one of my favorite events in my city. Who wouldn't love an amusement park style carnival, horse and bull riding competitions, and the most Texan shopping opportunities ever? My only complaint with the rodeo is that it seems to last so little time. But maybe that's just because March tends to be a busy month for me. Anyway, I did get to go out to the rodeo with a friend last week, but maybe I'll make another stop next week.

Realizing...

I need to keep my idealism in check. I've written a little about this before but basically if there's anythng you need to know about me, it's that I can be a little too idealistic about some things sometimes. For example, in my mind the church should always be a place of inclusion and compassion, with no exceptions. But the reality is that people (even Christians) aren't perfect. So there are going to be times when things get ugly, and my heart wants to sink in my chest when I see that happen. That's kind of what the past few weeks have been like, so I'm in the process of learning to have grace even for people who aren't having grace for others. It's just not always easy.
