Why We Have More Than We Realize

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a great three day weekend. I sure did, since I ventured out to a nearby lake and forest which meant the serious nature lover in me was very happy. :)
For today’s post, I just wanted to share something simple that God reminds me about sometimes. And it’s that my life is good. So good. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not perfect. I’m not exactly where I want to be, where I’ve dreamed of being. I have my share of issues and problems I encounter daily. Sometimes it feels like I have to fight my own feelings that try to convince me I should be worried about something. But when I really think about all that I have and all God has given me, I can’t help but realize the truth that my life is good. And I want to be grateful for that.
We live in a world of comparison though, don’t we? So often, other people’s triumphs feel like personal attacks on our failures. We scroll through social media feeds of people traveling, getting married, starting picture-perfect families. All the while wondering when it’ll be our turn. It can be so, so easy to buy into the lie that our life is terrible, or that being grateful for what we have is a waste of time. But being grateful and content with where you are doesn’t mean you’ve settled or given up. It just means that you’re aware of how blessed you are. And that you'll choose gratitude and generosity over selfishness and greed.
In my case, I can’t help but be grateful that I live in my city. Despite the fact that I’m not a huge fan of the weather and constantly fantasize about mountains and more nature, I know I’m so blessed to be here. After all, it was in this city that I found a church I love. It’s in this country that I have the freedom to worship God, to exercise my vote, to speak my opinion without fear for my life. It’s here that all of my needs are met. I have enough food every day. I have a car to take me wherever I need to go. I have a family, and a house to call home every night.
How can we not be grateful for those things? There are many people in the world who don't even have most of these things. We have so much. We struggle sometimes, sure. But at the end of the day, I think we have it pretty good. We have this life - the chance to keep going, keep loving, keep pursuing. And it might be a worn cliché, but I think that is such a gift.
So let’s not waste it on complaints and comparison and all those other silly things that stress us out for no good reason. Instead, I’m challenging you to dwell on what you do have today, what you can be grateful for. I bet you it’s a lot more than you realize.
