Yesterday was the official start of summer but to be honest, it's felt like summer for weeks thanks to Houston's ridiculously humid weather. I have a love/hate relationship with this season (that's honestly mostly hate). But there are a few ways I've found to enjoy this blindingly hot and bright season. Here's a few of the things I'm enjoying this month.

Watching…
Jane the Virgin. Although I'd heard good things about this show, I never caught onto it because it just didn't seem like my type of show. But recently I decided to check it out anyway after coming across the pilot on Netflix. And turns out, it's pretty addicting. Even though it can be a little melodramatic and soap opera-esque (though it does make fun of itself for it, which I enjoy), the real reason I ended up liking this show is because of the main character, Jane. She's someone who knows how to hold her own, and while she's vulnerable and relatable, she doesn't let anyone take advantage of her or overstep her values. Gina Rodriguez really did a great job with this role. I'd recommend you check out the show simply for her amazing acting.
Listening to...
Feelin' by LYA. Our youth and young adult conference was this past week and it was awesome, fun and as usual a little tiring - in the best possible way. One cool thing that happened during it is that our young adult band released their first official single. It's a catchy and fun song in a similar style to Hillsong Young & Free. You can listen to a preview and download it on iTunes here. Also, check out the awesome cover art for the single below.

Reading…
I've almost read through my recent May book haul, and have quite a bit to say about each book I've read. That'll come in a later post though. So far, I'm about to start Robin Hood Marketing, which is my nonfiction book of the month. To be honest, I've been a little slow on starting it because as much as I like the idea of reading something educational each month, I think deep down I'd always rather be reading a novel! I am going to start it this week though, so wish me luck.
Exploring...
Our local museums. It's kind of become a habit for me to explore our city museums during the summertime, and this year will probably be no different. A couple days ago I stopped by our museum of fine arts to view the new Kusama exhibit with some friends. It was lovely, colorful and unique, as you can see from the pictures below (and the cover of this post). My only compliant is that we got about two minutes in one exhibit and 45 seconds in the other (and we paid $13 for both)! I know the exhibits are very popular, but it would have been nice to spend at least a little more time inside.

(you can learn more about this exhibit here)

Working on...
Learning something new. I've officially been out of college for a year now and while I don't miss studying or text anxiety, I do miss sitting in class and listening to engaging lectures. The only problem is there are several different topics I'd love to learn more about, so it's been a bit of a challenge to choose where to start. Recently though, I've been thinking about how much I miss being in English and literature classes. So more than likely, I'm going to try to find a good (hopefully free) online course about British Romanticism (my absolute favorite literary and art period). I may have graduated with a business degree, but I'll always be an English nerd at heart. ;)
