Favorite Articles Series: Part 3

I hope your July has been off to a great start! I'm still sitting here wondering how we can possibly already be halfway through the year. But don't mind me...

Today I wanted to post on one of my favorite series again, where I share some of my favorite internet articles with you guys. Now that I have immersed myself in the world of Pinterest (after putting up a good fight for... however many years Pinterest has been around), I keep finding even more great articles to share. Here are some of my recent favorites:

Last Friday would have been Princess Diana's birthday and while I don't remember anything about her since she passed away when I was very young, I have always been inspired by quotes and stories about her. Princess Diana was a woman who wasn't afraid to be herself even at the face of criticism, and who valued helping others no matter what it might cost her. Darling Magazine recently shared 5 ways we can all be a little more like her (from her own quotes), and I'm taking them to heart.

Nicole Reyes is hands down one of my favorite speakers/writers, and I'm always so inspired by her blog post. In this one, she talks about how our longings for perfection and adventure all stem from a longing for heaven. And she ends with an encouragement to continue longing for heaven - even while we're here on earth. Something we always need to keep in mind.

Thanks to Pinterest (and the pressures of Camp Nanowrimo) I've been reading a lot of writing advice articles lately. But so far this one has been my favorite. Writer Meghan spells out what many of us writers can relate to in this post - the paralyzing effect that worrying our first draft isn't "good enough" can have on us. But like she says, a first draft isn't supposed to be perfect. It's supposed to be about getting our story out there. So let's save all the perfectionism and stress for the editing part. ;)

I believe humility is often one of the least discussed topics in the church, but it is one of the most important. True humility builds us up, allows us to be vulnerable and keeps our focus on God's purpose. It's such a beautiful and powerful thing. In this Propel Magazine article, Hannah Brencher discusses why humility is such an important thing to pursue.

This is more of a photo diary than an article, but it's so powerful that I had to share it. In this project shared by Feed Projects (the makers of my favorite brand of totes & bags), a photographer went around New York documenting the struggles of people who were "hidden in plain sight." I find it especially relevant because I'm planning to visit New York in a few weeks, a city that is known for its glamour and bright lights. But I don't want to forget that there are people in need there too. There are people in need everywhere, really.

I'm one of those people who have a hard time saying no... like, a really hard time. And reading this article helped me put that in perspective and acknowledge some of the ways in which that isn't healthy at all. People-pleasing is an easy trap to sink into, because we tell ourselves that we're doing it to help others. But in the process, we could be hurting ourselves.
