I was trying to decide what to post today when I realized that it's already the next to last day of August! That of course means it’s time to post my favorites for the month. As usual, I will first entertain you with a few pointless questions: how on earth is this month already over? Didn’t it just start, like, a week ago?

I should really get used to the months flying by…

But anyway, here are my favorites for the lovely (and swelteringly hot) month of August.

Reading…

This was a bad reading month for me in terms of my 3 books a month challenge. But I did manage to squeeze one read in, and that was Shauna Niequist’s latest release, Present Over Perfect. Shauna Niequist is one of my favorite authors, so I have been eagerly awaiting this book all summer. It finally arrived August 9, and even though I tried to save it for my flight to New York, I was practically done before I boarded (oops!). Like all of Shauna’s books, this is a great one. However, I still like some of her previous books better, mostly because the slowing-down-from-a-busy-life topic isn’t one I struggle with that much. I can’t really handle being too busy, so I usually make time for rest already. Still, it’s always a good reminder. If taking a break is something you struggle with, please read this book!

Wearing…

This adorable tote bag I got from the New York Public Library. The library was probably my second favorite place we got to visit (the first being Central Park, because obviously) so I just had to get a souvenir from the gift shop. And this tote was perfect because I can take it practically anywhere. I can’t wait to show you guys more pictures from the NYPL because it’s so beautiful and I had the time of my life actually sitting in one of their rooms doing work. Kinda made me feel like a true New Yorker. ;)

Listening to…

There When I Need You by J.O.N. This is probably the most random way I’ve ever come across a good new song. A friend on Facebook shared one of his friend’s new singles and, because I’m curious, I decided to check it out. I ended up loving it, so I bought it right then and there on iTunes. I don’t even know the person who created this single even though they go to my church lol. But I think it’s awesome to see young people creating good Christian music, and it’s important to support it. Even if it’s just by purchasing a single.

Following...

The KittenxLady on Instagram. You can probably guess why I decided to follow this account just from the name. Basically, it’s kitten posts all day and they are the cutest little babies. Hannah Shaw, who runs the Instagram does much more than just post cute kitten pictures though. She dedicates her time to rescuing orphaned kittens (which are actually often put down at shelters because they’re so hard to care for) and educates others on how to do the same (and also how to know when to leave them alone). Following her account reminds me of the time we helped raise a litter of tiny kittens in our home. It was one of the neatest things I've gotten to experience. Go follow her if you love kittens (but how could you not?)!

Looking forward to…

I got the best news of my life last week (okay, slight exaggeration) when I found out The Fray, aka my favorite band since I was in the seventh grade, is coming back to perform a concert on my city. The date? My birthday. As in, the actual, exact date of my birthday. Obviously, I freaked out a little and then bought my ticket as soon as it went on sale. So for that reason, I am really, really, really looking forward to my birthday this year. Also, bonus: apparently it’s National Chocolate Day on my birthday too. So really, this is just going to be the best day of the year.

Well, that’s about it for now! What have you been loving this month?
